I am a huge fan of the Tomb Raider games.
When they revamped the series I was so excited.
After playing Tomb Raider, I couldn't believe they had so perfectly nailed a game.
It was beautiful, well thought out, smooth, and entertaining from beginning to end.
Few games have been that much fun and also made you care about the story.
After the huge success of Tomb Raider, the sequel was inevitable.
While I knew it would still be fun, I also knew that most sequels just can't hold up.
Thankfully, I was wrong about this one.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is simply just as good as the first one.
Lara's character growth in the first one was definitely the driving force in the first game and so I was trying to see how they were going to play her in the second.
It wouldn't make sense to knock her back down to the green, survival driven girl she was, but she's still too young to be the stone cold killing machine from the original games.
They found her sweet spot though.

Not to spoil anything, Lara, now believing in the unbelievable, becomes obsessed with her father's final pursuit and is willing to do anything to prove he wasn't crazy.
The mystery of her father's final research, his death, and those he trusted comes to light as she drives to answers.
This is the catalyst, the development of her blind mission is the story, and man is it good.
Replay value is actually pretty great.
I've played and beaten the first one multiple times.
While I will say you could probably beat this faster, there's still plenty to do.

A group of baddies called Trinity are also after the artifact.
Of course, that leads to conflict and combat.
There are items like challenge tombs and side missions along the way that provide extras.
I was seriously glued to the screen for most of two days because I didn't want to leave the story.
A few of my favorite sections were the battle scene where Lara has to swim underwater and pop up at holes in the ice to take out super soldiers.
The puzzles are another part of why I love these games.
You really have to think things through to figure out how some of these things work.
It's a nice change from the run and shoot games.
I hope that many more Tomb Raider games are in the works.
I'd say this is for about 12 or 13 and older just due to the violence.
I was worried the Xbox 360 version would be an inferior port to the Xbox One version.
I'm relieved this is not the case.
The gameplay has been preserved and is identical to Xbox One.
In fact the controller response rate is noticeable better on Xbox 360.
On to the graphics.
For a last gen console port this hold up well.
To keep resource heavy cutscenes equal to Xbox One quality they cleverly used pre-recorded cutscenes from the Xbox One.
My tiny problem with this is that if you are wearing a different outfit at the time than the default perhaps for a health boost your immersion level will be reduced at seeing Lara suddenly in a totally different outfit.
If you had no idea the game uses pre-recorded cutscenes you might be confused when you see this.
My verdict: This is worth getting if you aren't interested in getting an Xbox One and you already have an Xbox 360.
This game does everything so excellently, I am constantly in awe at the sheer amount of content being able to be explored in this game with rarely any loading.
I swear this game is like 3-4 games in 1.
I am currently around 70% after 29 hours.
I have listened to every audio log, I have been playing on normal, and been exploring non stop.
This game is so good it is hard to put down, and stop playing.

When I eventually beat it I plan to do 2 more playthroughs, 1 on hardest difficulty and one speedrun.

The maps are easily more beautiful than ever without feeling source vast you couldn't possibly discover everything.
New skills, new gear, all leading to new ways to explore, maneuver, and battle.
Fighting has multiple new elements, all of which you will find yourself heavily leaning on.
I am a huge fan of the silent assassin way of fighting and will happily take an hour to clear a room without a peep.
This being said, sometimes quiet is just not on the table.
I love the new ability to craft explosives.
I also found the enemy much less able to be tricked.
If you want someone dead quietly, you better do it fast and out of eye site.
The tombs were actually not my favorite part of this.
Simply put, they were more a means to an ends and I found myself just hoping I was almost done with them.
For someone who loved the original games BECAUSE OF the puzzles, this was a little bit of a downer, but not horrible.
They just were better in Tomb Raider.
Weapons didn't change a lot, except how hard it is to upgrade them.
The first game really just needed you to find parts and slap them on whatever.
This gear will take longer and require a lot of different kinds of parts.
Skills are pretty much the same too, just a few more with some cool new skills.
I love all the ones that let you quietly take someone out.
The story line was really my biggest concern, especially when I heard it was going to be about her father.
Tomb Raider has been known for the parent drama as Lara heavily leaned on her fathers work or involvement with a seedy organization that would lead her to all over the world.
Well, the developers must have known my fears cause they took that basic element and made it into something great.
Not to spoil anything, Lara, now believing in the unbelievable, becomes obsessed with her father's final pursuit and is willing to do anything to prove he wasn't crazy.
The mystery of her father's final research, his death, and those he trusted comes to light as she drives to answers.
This is the catalyst, the development of her blind mission is the story, and man is it good.
Replay value is actually pretty great.
I've played and beaten the first one multiple times.
While I will say you could probably beat this faster, there's still plenty to do.
Also, after beating the game, you get a promo for the next game and when you continue, instead of dropping you off like you haven't beaten it yet, it gives you a video explaining that you have plenty to discover on the maps and there are still enemies left.
Just a nice change from the, "We'll just pretend you haven't beaten this yet" and slap you right before the boss fight.
I love this game.
It was a blast and I am playing through it again because I loved it so much.

The first is probably my favorite, but this was a beautiful extension.

I'm relieved this is not the case.
The gameplay has been preserved and is identical to Xbox One.
In fact the controller response rate is noticeable better on Xbox 360.
On to the graphics.
For a last gen console port this hold up well.
To keep resource heavy cutscenes equal to Xbox One quality they cleverly used pre-recorded cutscenes from the Xbox One.
My tiny problem with this is that if you are wearing a different outfit at the time than the default perhaps for a health boost your immersion level will be reduced at seeing Lara suddenly in a totally different outfit.
If you had no idea the game uses pre-recorded cutscenes you might be confused when you see this.
My verdict: This is worth getting if you aren't interested in getting an Xbox One and you already check this out an Xbox 360.

As always, I welcome corrections and additions.
Artifacts look like shiny statuettes with a different design for each game location e.
Relics are unique items.
Each has a different appearance and description.
You'll see an information screen about each relic when you find it.
You can also examine the relics you've found so far in the Rewards section of the main menu, or by visiting Lara's trophy room in.
Artifacts and Relics check game bonus saved in the player's Profile, not in the individual savegame files, as in TR Legend.
So, any savegame files you exchange with other players will not include artifacts and relics.
There are a total of 44 artifacts and 8 relics in the game.
My walkthrough lists the number available in each level, if any.

The goal in Time Trial is to complete the level before the timer at the bottom of the screen runs out.
Beating all the levels in each chapter Peru, Greece, Egypt and the Lost Island in Time Trial mode unlocks various cheat codes see below.
NOTE: I plan to add a Time Trial Tips section to the walkthrough.
I encourage players to send me their suggestions, both general time-savers and specific shortcuts for each level.
You can replay them by choosing Rewards then Cinematics from the main menu.
If you like, you can turn on Subtitles in the Options menu so you don't miss any dialogue.
To unlock the music tracks from each chapter of the game, you must first complete the level by unlocking Lara's music room.
After that, completing each chapter unlocks all of the music for that section.
Access the soundtracks by choosing Rewards then Music from the main menu or by using the stereo in the music room in Croft Manor.
OUTFITS From the main menu, choose Rewards, then Outfits, to view all the clothes you've unlocked for Lara.
Once you have unlocked an outfit, you can try it on by going to the bedroom in Croft Manor.
Lara's closet will look familiar to anyone who's played The Sims.
And check out the vast array of stretchy, aqua tops on the hangers in the closet.
You can't choose Lara's outfit when starting a level for the first time, but you can change outfits before replaying a level.
To do this, choose Play Game from the main menu.
Then choose Replay Level and select the level name from the list.
Then next screen allows you to choose the difficulty level Easy, Medium, Hard or Time Trialas well as pick Lara's outfit from the ones you've unlocked so far.
Click the Outfits option repeatedly to cycle through the choices.
Then click Start Game.

These can be accessed through the Rewards menu.
As with the Cinematics and Music, the Character Bios section in the Rewards menu updates after you complete each chapter of the game, rather than each level.

I am a huge fan of the Tomb Raider games.
When they revamped the series I was so excited.
After playing Tomb Raider, I couldn't believe they had so perfectly nailed a game.
It was beautiful, well thought out, smooth, and entertaining from beginning to end.
Few games have been that much fun and also made you care about the story.
After the huge success of Tomb Raider, the sequel was inevitable.
While I knew it would still be fun, I also knew that most sequels just can't hold up.
Thankfully, I was wrong about this one.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is simply just as good as the first one.

Just a nice change from the, "We'll just pretend you haven't beaten this yet" and slap you right before the boss fight.
I love this game.
It was a blast and I am playing through it again because I loved it so much.

The first is probably my favorite, but this was a beautiful extension.
It didn't feel forced or unnatural, didn't feel like a brand new game from the first, also didn't feel like I was starting from ground 1.

The visuals are stunning.
